Arahoho Blowhole
30-45 Mins
About
Papeete, French Polynesia
Carved into the rugged volcanic coastline of Tahiti, the Arahoho Blowhole is a dramatic natural phenomenon where powerful ocean waves force water through a narrow rock tunnel. When the surf surges just right, water explodes upward like a natural geyser, sending mist into the tropical air. It’s a quick stop along Tahiti’s coastal road, but one that captures the raw energy and beauty of the Pacific Ocean.
Best Time to Visit
May–October. During the dry season the seas are often more active on Tahiti’s east coast, creating stronger wave surges that make the blowhole erupt more dramatically.
Stand back from the opening and watch for a few minutes before approaching. Large waves can send sudden bursts of water high into the air, making it both thrilling and surprisingly powerful.
