About

Rome, Italy

The Pantheon is one of the most extraordinary monuments of ancient Rome, standing nearly unchanged for almost two thousand years. Its massive dome and perfectly centered oculus create a breathtaking play of light that shifts throughout the day. Originally built as a temple to all Roman gods, the Pantheon now serves as a church and timeless architectural masterpiece that connects travelers directly to the power and ingenuity of the Roman Empire.

Best Time to Visit

October–April or early mornings year-round. Visiting early helps avoid the busy midday crowds in Piazza della Rotonda and allows travelers to experience the space in a quieter atmosphere.

Stand directly beneath the oculus around midday when sunlight pours through the opening and creates a dramatic beam of light across the ancient marble floor.
